The newly formed Cancer Data Sciences group at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and UCLA Jonsson Cancer Centre is seeking a Program Manager. We are a team of data-intensive cancer researchers with a mission of curing cancer through data-intensive research, training and infrastructure-development. To support this mission, we deploy a broad range of technologies ranging from cloud-computing and AI/ML to genomics and bioinformatics. Our work is enabled by a broad range of public, industry and philanthropic funding and supports well-structured software-development and data science activities. As a result, we are working many petabytes of cancer data and currently executing over 100 projects. We are seeking a Program Manager to serve as a key operational lead for this dynamic, rapidly-growing program.
Our Program Manager will be passionate about applying their project management, organizational, communication and technical skills to drive success. You will report to directly to the Director, Cancer Data Science and will participate in both the setting of strategic priorities and in driving their execution. You will work with a wide-range of domains, including genomics, bioinformatics, cloud-based computing, data science, software development and cancer biology. Detailed technical knowledge of one of these domains is key, preferably supplemented by exposure to one or more others. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, with a bias to action and a track-record of collaboration and promoting a positive team culture.
Responsibilities will be broad, with a focus on execution. A process-improvement mindset is essential, with an eye to excellent documentation and process automation. In this role you will support the management and execution of a range of research and operational activities, using PM, communication, design and analysis skills. Major tasks will include supporting internal and external deliverables, budget and proposal preparation, stakeholder engagement, preparing internal- and external-facing documents and graphics, training and hiring. Strong communication skills, technical expertise and formal training in project management or business administration are expected. The successful candidate will be comfortable multi-tasking, and developing strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Salary Range: $67,400 – $133,400/annually
