DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, incumbent is responsible for recruitment, program coordination, and retention, outreach, for cross-cultural understanding with Hispanic families and other patients at various Free Clinic locations. Incumbent will oversee and participate in case management, recruitment of patients, perform outreach in the community, identifying problems, needs, and communicate them to the clinic. Incumbent will also assist with patient follow-up, which may include accompanying patients to clinic visits in their neighborhood. Incumbent also co-leads the Street Outreach Team (SOT). The Street Outreach Team aims to empower people living unsheltered in San Diego to build relationships and trust with the healthcare and social service systems in the community. The overall goals of the SOT are to help people experiencing homelessness access health care and social services by providing outreach, health education, and referrals, to teach medical students about homelessness and barriers to the healthcare system for people experiencing homelessness, and to teach medical students program management skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in social work and/or in related area.
Experience working directly with diverse patient population or relevant degree.
Demonstrated ability to act as liaison between medical students, patients, and faculty.
Demonstrated knowledge of cross-cultural issues and resources.
Demonstrated ability to counsel patients in a wide variety of situations.
Excellent recordkeeping skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively with walk-in traffic, heavy telephone volume, and interruptions.
Demonstrated experience using available resources for necessary research, inquiries, and information gathering.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact tactfully with diverse populations by telephone, in writing, and in person.
Demonstrated excellent judgment, including the ability to identify the areas in which consultation is necessary.
Computer literacy and word processing skills. Must be proficient in MS Word, email, Internet use.
Demonstrated experience working in a clinical or research setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledgeable of transportation services such as bus schedules, trolley etc.
Familiarity with working with unhoused and Free Clinic patient populations.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,933 – $70,992 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.83 – $34.00
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
