DESCRIPTION
The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 53 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI).

Under general supervision, manage and perform technical and administrative operations for the UCSD Moores Cancer Center Flow Cytometry Shared Resource.
Responsibilities include:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced practical knowledge and experience operating a 16- and 23-color BD platform digital flow cytometer and cell sorter in a biosafety cabinet.
In depth theoretical and practical knowledge of and experience with multiparameter flow cytometry, cell sorting and data analysis.
Demonstrated experience, expertise and skill using a 5-laser BD FACSymphony S6 cell sorter in a biosafety cabinet.
Strong communication skills and track record of collaboration needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment. Ability to read, comprehend, and discuss research materials. Ability to write, edit and proofread research results.
Skill and patience teaching, training and explaining difficult concepts to diverse users with different skill and experience levels. Track record of providing exceptional customer service and user experience.
Advanced skill and experience in preparing live and fixed cell preparations for flow cytometry.
Ability to independently advise and troubleshoot experiments and protocols for investigators who want to analyze or sort cell populations based on up to 25 distinct parameters.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of biology and experimental techniques including immunocytometry, selective staining, standard staining of tissue and cells for flow cytometry.
Ability to effectively interface with dozens of investigators from various UCSD laboratories who wish to access the MCC Flow Cytometry Shared Resource.
Demonstrated ability in data management, analysis, interpretation, and description of scientific data in a publication format reports.
Advanced knowledge of and experience with FACSDiva, FlowJo, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Graphpad PRISM software.
Knowledge of Lab Safety Manual and Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations with respect to lasers, lab safety, biosafety and chemical waste disposal.
Experience in using Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint to present quantification data from experimental results.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $62,324 – $100,220 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.85 – $48.00
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
