DESCRIPTION
The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 67 faculty 15 clinical fellows. The department is composed of 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery. The department is currently ranked 3rd in the nation in NIH funding among OB/GYN departments.
The Executive Director of the Science and Technology Hub in the Center for OB/GYN Research Innovation, reports directly to Faculty Director. The Executive Director manages and provides technical direction as well as long and short term planning for function for the Advises and supports the Director of the Center for OB/GYN Research Innovation in all matters. Will be responsible for the overall planning, function, and long-term support of this Hub. Key responsibilities involve coordinating activities with partnering Departments and Centers, interacting with UC San Diego faculty and other national collaborators on research projects, management of Hub staff and functions, reporting to UC San Diego faculty leadership and advisory boards, establishing the Hub business model, and leading outreach efforts.
The Executive Director is responsible for articulating long-term vision and goals as well as managing ongoing operations of program. Interacts with UC San Diego faculty across multiple schools and divisions and engages them in collaborative research projects. Responsible for leading the expansion of services offered by the IGM Genomics Center, including the implementation of emerging spatial technologies that can perform highly multiplexed biomarker analysis across whole tissues with single-cell resolution, and the implementation/maintenance of a computing infrastructure that can store and analyze large spatial omics datasets.
Responsible for evaluating rapidly developing genomics technologies, and working to adopt those that will address the scientific needs of UCSD researchers, in line with the strategic vision and goals of the IGM Genomics Center.
Responsible for driving internal innovation, and optimizing assays/technologies so that they can be deployed to a wide variety of projects undertaken by UCSD researchers.
Responsible for providing consultations regarding assay selection, experimental design, and data analysis, as well as relevant training, for student, staff, and faculty investigators.
The Executive Director is responsible for selecting, directing and managing Center staff that specialize in high throughput genomic techniques who will carry out the key functions of the Center. Assumes accountability for decisions made by subordinates.
The position requires strong demonstrated working knowledge of scientific research, genomics technologies, funding initiatives, strategic planning, communications strategy and financial management. Ability to interface with senior leadership, industry partners, principal investigators and physician team members. Uses highly specialized expertise in research-specific concepts and objectives.
Responsible for recruiting and retaining industrial leaders to partner with research program in achievement of center goals. Oversees subcontracts with program partners. Facilitates several national/ international conferences or seminars annually.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in related area and seven or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
Broad knowledge of the legal constraints and opportunities for higher education in the State of California and through Federal programs and regulations.
Broad knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.
Broad knowledge of organizational processes, protocols and procedures.
Demonstrated consulting, relationship building and strategic thinking skills.
Proven ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level; to lead staff to develop goals in alignment with mission.
Proven leadership abilities to establish department goals, and motivate and influence others to achieve.
Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree preferred (Ph.D) in a relevant field of study.
Experience with advanced omic methods, include spatial omics

Annual Full Pay Range: $124,400 – $243,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $59.58 – $116.67
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
