Teaching/Anatomy & Physiology Lab Assistant
Job Summary:
To teach, coordinate, maintain, and supervise Human Anatomy and Physiology laboratories.The staff member shall have the responsibilities of assisting faculty member in the responsibility of teaching, Human Anatomy and Physiology lecture and associate laboratory classes to qualified undergraduate students primarily in the nursing and biology programs. The staff member will also be required to mentor students and perform service activities appropriated to the department and the University.
Essential Job Duties:
– Position responsibilities shall consist of 100% overall total job description duties and will be concentrated during the academic year.
– Provide instruction for two sections (2) Anatomy and Physiology laboratory classes per week.
– Provide grading for specific classes.
– Supervise/carry out the physical set-up and preparation of equipment and materials needed for specific Anatomy and Physiology labs, as well as return of equipment and materials to storage following labs, and related clean-up tasks.
– Establish and maintain consistent office hours of at least six hours per week in order to be available to students and faculty. – Maintain consistent schedule of arriving and being present in department at least thirty minutes prior to class and/or lab.- Maintain regular and consistent communication with department faculty.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training):
Master’s Degree in a related field and three (3) years related Human Anatomy and Physiology experience, (1) of which includes lecturing in a higher education setting; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Skills and Attributes:
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.- In depth knowledge of preventative measures and laboratory best practices
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills
– Organize and store all chemicals substance
– Ability to work autonomously and under pressure- Able to pay keen attention to details
Ability to manage cleanliness, orderliness, and supplies
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
– Strong academic background in biology, including the specific discipline of human anatomy and physiology, and good technical lab skills, including some relevant skills in equipment maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of laboratory chemicals and chemical hygiene practices.
– Excellent teaching skills desirable.
– Ability to work effectively with faculty in planning and coordinating labs. Additional Position Information:
