Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs,
the Director of Residential Life & Learning provides strategic leadership for an integrated residential program that is the foundation
of co-curricular engagement at a highly selective, student-centered research university. A key member of the Division’s senior
management team, the Director will help shape and implement a departmental vision that deepens co-curricular learning, fosters pluralism and
inclusion, civic engagement and promotes holistic wellness among students at Tufts. Through leadership of 15 professional staff and over 100
student leaders, the successful Director will develop and lead an operational and educationally based program that fosters vibrant community
at Tufts.
The Director supervises the Associate Director of Residential Education, Associate Director of Housing Operations, and an
Administrative Assistant, and indirectly supervises housing operations professionals and three Assistant Directors of Residential Life in
the daily operations of ORLL. The Director will also lead this team as they pursue the following common goals:
Cultivating collaborative relationships with
colleagues throughout the Division of Student Affairs is essential for success. The Director will partner with colleagues to address
student-related issues of concern through the Student Judicial Process, Case Management Team, and Health Accommodations and Medical Leave
Committee. Additional responsibilities include crisis-management leadership; oversight of housing operations; strategic allocation of
departmental resources, and diligent stewardship of department budgets. The Director will also serve as a visible and active presence in
support of student events and initiatives, design assessment practices focused on student learning and department efficacy, resolve
conflicts within the residential environment, serve in the Dean of Student Affairs on-call rotation, work with parents and families in
support of their student and remain committed to student-centered decision-making.
This is a hybrid position, which is
expected to be on campus most days each week. The role also requires work outside of normal business hours on evenings and weekends for
specific scheduled events.
