Position Summary:

Provides consultation, analysis, advice, and education to employees/supervisors/managers/directors in specific human resources areas such as employee relations, labor relations, compensation, benefits, staffing, equal opportunity, discipline, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, leaves of absence, etc. Works with union and non union employees. Maintains effective working relationships with all levels of the organization. Acts as a key internal expert for both specific and broad based human resources issues.

Major Position Responsibilities:

• Acts as a consultant to supervisors, managers, directors and employees. Recommends key human resource solutions for specific issues
• Provides analysis, advice, and education to leaders on highly sensitive and complex human resources issues
• Manages the design and delivery of key hospital initiatives and/or projects
• Participates in the development of human resource policies and practices that have broad impact. Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and contract provisions
• Conducts investigations on sensitive issues and helps resolve differences
• Advises and recommends course of action which have a moderate impact to the organization or department
• Develops ideas based on general direction from senior management. Resolves daily and operational issues
• Works with peers on developing and implementing projects
• Point of contact for employee relations issues including policy interpretation as it relates to union contracts
• Responsible for assisting and training managers on best practice performance management
• Consults with management regarding preventative labor relations or interpretation and resolution of disputes for both collective bargaining union and non-union employees
• Provides operational HR support to management team including assessing and making recommendations pertaining to HR related matters
• Knowledge of, and able to apply applicable Employment laws
• Applies Weingarten rights and issues Skelly letters according to policy and union contracts
• Under the direction of HR Leader, handles labor and union issues related to employee relations and grievances
• Applies employee relations programs which address consistent application of HR policies and bargaining unit contracts, including progressive discipline, termination issues and grievances.
• May assist with recruiting function as needed.
• Reports, conducts research, works on special projects and other duties as necessary

Safety and Infection Control Responsibilities

• Responsible to maintain a safe and clean work environment, including unit based specific safety and infection control requirements.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Human Resources department, required.
• Experience in a hospital and union environment, preferred.
• Ability to prioritize demands to meet multiple deadlines while offering detailed oriented work, required.
• Must be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
• Requires strong initiative, able to work independently and have the ability to assert ones influence to achieve department goals. Strong presentation, verbal/written communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and MS Word, required.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar is required, or equivalent combination of formal education, training, and experience.
• Master’s Degree, preferred

Certifications:

• PHR or SPHR, preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36.21 – $49.25 per hour
