Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will work under the direction of the APHI Data Manager and a senior APHI project
leader, and will collaborate with Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) partners and health care provider teams. The primary roles of the incumbent will be to participate in planning of the APHI project, to set-up and manage databases, data collection tools (e.g., electronic remote entry data systems, such as Qualtrics), to oversee data collection, to carry out data quality assessments, and to summarize data and datasets. The primary project will be the HIV PrEP Initiative Project (PIP), but may also participate in other projects. The daily activities will include contacting participating medical care site personnel, regular interaction with MCPH partners, review of data, data corrections and reporting through summary tables, graphs and brief text. Other activities will include training for the incumbent and the incumbent’s participation in training for project personnel, communication, information dissemination among research project team members. The incumbent may serve as a key liaison for the project(s) with participating site personnel, MCPH partners and the core members of the project team. Communication with participating partners is a key component of the job, and so the incumbent should be highly competent in his/her communication abilities.
The data will include partially de-identified, potentially sensitive medical information in limited datasets (LDS). It will need to be treated with confidentiality. Thus, the incumbent will need to be appropriately trained for managing this level of sensitive information, prior to beginning to work with the data.
The work environment will include on-campus and occasional off-campus activities, to make
connections and assist in training of PrEP Initiative site personnel. Data management activities will be carried out with a University-supplied computer, which has been formatted to work securely with files in the University protected data environment.
Learning Opportunities: The position will include the further development of the incumbent’s
competence in managing data, complex datasets and producing basic statistics relating to the data. The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop substantial experience with STATA and other software in the management of date. The incumbent will have the opportunity to learn about HIV and public health interventions to prevent infection. The incumbent will grow his/her experience in working on project teams.
