The Department of Theatre Arts in the Division of Performing Arts is looking to fill the position of Costume Shop Manager.
The
Costume Shop Manager will supervise and execute creation of costumes and related items for assigned productions in the Department of Theatre
Arts. Maintain costume shop tools and facilities. This is a twelve-month full-time position. Supervision is exercised over assigned support
staff and student labor force. This position will report to the Production Manager and work within the Office of Performing Arts and
Engagement ensuring successful execution of each production season.

Duties to include:
- Work with faculty, student, and guest costume designers on construction details,
the fit of garments, finishing, and the tech and dress rehearsal process to help them realize their designs. - Lending expertise and
consulting with faculty, student, and guest designers on the best and most efficient process of constructing and altering costumes as
required. - Work with other costume shop staff to devise construction techniques.
- Assign tasks that meet each person’s
abilities allowing for the extra time and attention needed by students. - Develop budget and monitor budget expenses. Resolve budget
discrepancies. - Determine the technical feasibility of production with faculty, student, and guest designers, and together come up
with a reasonable financial plan to bring the designs to the stage.

Required Qualifications:
- A
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in dramatic art with a specialization in costume design and/or construction or equivalent combination of
education and experience - Experience with pattern drafting and draping, stitching, and tailoring
- One-year related theatre
work experience - Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates skills in promoting diversity,
equity, and inclusion in the workplace, particularly within the performing arts - Demonstrates a commitment to open communication and
to the value of teamwork in problem solving - Current with costume technology standards and trends, including the safe handling and
storage of materials/chemicals
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working on productions in an
academic setting, preferably in a higher education setting - MFA Degree in Costume Production or Technology
- Knowledge of
and/or experience in millinery, fabric manipulation including painting and dying, pattern making- both analog and digital, stage makeup,
hair and wig styling, jewelry making, and machine embroidery - Knowledge of the use of state-of-the-art digital machinery related to
costume design and fabrication
