Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; occasional evenings and weekends.
Job Summary: Locates and submits proposals for external funding by researching and disseminating information on funding opportunities. Ensures compliance with all applicable policies and guidelines.
Additional Department Summary: The Proposal Development Specialist oversees the scientific writing process of complex multi-investigator and institutional grant applications for the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS). Serves as an integral part of the College’s research team, which supports grants planning, opportunity identification, and proposal preparation to support CCHS faculty and leadership in attracting and retaining extramural federal and peer-reviewed research funding. Assists CCHS faculty with the preparation of competitive individual and institutional NIH, NSF, HRSA, PCORI and other grant applications on a variety of scientific topics. Provides technical writing, grantsmanship, and editorial support for grant proposals and related publications. Researches and reviews data to prepare budgets, applications, and reports for grant proposals and RFP documents. Collaborates with UA Office of Sponsored Programs and other agencies as needed to ensure proposals are consistent with federal laws and regulations, sponsor agreements, submission requirements, and College/University policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience in proposal/contract/research project development administration; OR Master’s degree and two years of experience in proposal/contract/research project development administration.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience in proposal/contract/research project development administration, to include scientific manuscript development, grant writing, preparation and/or project management with and emphasis on medical, public heath, or healthcare-related writing/research; OR Master’s degree and two (2) years of experience in proposal/contract/research project development administration, to include scientific manuscript development, grant writing, preparation and/or project management with and emphasis on medical, public health, or health-related writing/research.
Skills and Knowledge: Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Planning and grant writing skills. Highly developed organization skills. Strong project management and team-building skills. Ability to grasp medical and health related research information at an elevated level to apply this knowledge to scientific writing. Ability to translate medical and health-related research concepts into easily understood grant applications, publications, and letters. Ability to work with aggressive deadlines and tailor deliverables accordingly. Exacting standards of quality. Attention to detail. Self-motivated and flexible. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism, English, or Communications. Grant writing/proposal development experience for submission of NIH, NSF, HRSA, or similar research grant applications. Experience in preparation of interim and final sponsor grant reports and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
