Job Summary: The IT Technical Specialist III performs advanced professional IT activities for a specialized, complex assignment or functional area requiring application of an advanced professional knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures. Requires evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams or other lower level staff.
Additional Department Summary: This intermediate-level position, under moderate supervision, designs, develops, and supports low to moderate complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the university. This may include departmental and moderately critical applications. As a consultant in residence, although supervised by centralized IT in OIT, this position will work directly with a single department as their primary resource to support their IT needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner. As a member of central IT, this position will have access to a department of professional IT resources who can assist when necessary. May develop, maintain, and support software processes, web applications, reporting suites, and training materials; maintain websites using WordPress; install, customize, support, and create integrations for vendor-supplied software systems; analyze and resolve problems arising with the use of software systems; and manage hardware inventory and upgrades.
Specifically, this position will support the department of Compliance and Risk Services, primarily supporting efforts to provide support and administration of system applications; process review and recommendations; development and implementation of technical solutions; installations, customizations, and support of vendor-supplied software systems; and analyze and resolve problems arising with use of software systems.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree ; OR Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of IT experience; OR Associate’s degree and four (4) years of IT experience; OR High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of IT experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional technology skills or project management methods and applications. May require intermediate or advanced level training or certification.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have experience in relevant IT fields, such as development and maintenance of software applications, relational database management systems, computer programming, web development, or system administration.
Skills and Knowledge: The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and work with customer groups and users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. The ability to manage work tasks and follow through to completion. Have effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Troubleshooting skills to analyze, track, and resolve issues. The ability to implement departmental third-party applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation, to successfully install and take on support for an application.
Preferred Qualifications: Some experience supporting or working with higher education administrative applications and tools, such as Microsoft SharePoint, Power Platform, and workflow tools. Base knowledge of managing Windows Server applications, including IIS management and configuration and a base knowledge of Linux commands.
