Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.
Additional Department Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides general academic advising activities that support the University and Honors College in support the overall goal of student academic success. Works with students as they transition from high school to college through Bama Bound orientation. Develops academic and co-curricular plan toward graduation with the Honors distinction. Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders. Supports various retention initiatives within Honors College.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work with diverse populations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills to include database management and spreadsheet development. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and experience in academic support, teaching, recruitment, and / or admissions position.
