The Shin lab is recruiting a Research Assistant 2-B/H to join her research team at The Ohio State University’s Department of Neurology and Comprehensive Cancer Center (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/gracejshin_neurology-cipnresearch-painresearch-activity-7083124244221456384-WtQ7?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop). The core mission of the Shin lab will be to elucidate the peripheral mechanisms of pain. We will utilize a multi-modal approach, encompassing animal and human models as well as patient samples, focusing particularly on Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN), associated comorbidities, and painful skin disorders. Embedded within a translational research environment, our lab endeavors to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application in close collaborations with clinicians to tackle pain more effectively.
The laboratory is set to open in September 2023, and we are currently recruiting multiple positions including, postdocs, research technicians, lab manager, and graduate students. The current post is to recruit a dedicated individual for a full-time senior technician position, ideally suited for trainees who have recently graduated from college and taking gap years before applying for graduate schools. This environment is ideal for trainees aiming to apply their research in bridging the basic science and clinical application to solve pain using multi-disciplinary approaches. The successful candidate will assist and support scientific investigation to study peripheral mechanisms of pain as directed in the Department of Neurology and Comprehensive Cancer Center at OSU; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including qPCR reactions, FACS, biochemical assays, cell cultures (primary and stem cells), immunolabeling, and quantitative imaging; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures and assists with care of lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts;
conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors and orders research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education experience; laboratory experiences demonstrating independent execution of research in biomedical sciences with minimal guidance; experiences/willingness in working within a team; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
