Job Title:Academic Advisor 2 – Hybrid

The Ohio State University at Lima seeks a qualified candidate to serve as an Academic Advisor for the Lima campus. Academic Advisors foster student success by implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. This position advises students on University policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Academic Advisors advise in student orientation and teaches student survey course(s). This role acquires information for students, including academic, career, financial, psychological, etc. resources. The best candidate for this position has the ability to establish meaningful relationships and encourage learning capacity, and is also a highly driven, success-focused individual. This position is located in Lima, OH and offers flexibility such as hybrid scheduling, as approved by the Manager of Academic Advising and Assistant Dean of Engagement.
The Ohio State University at Lima is one of six campuses through The Ohio State University. Our current enrollment of approximately 1,000 students includes both traditional and non-traditional learners, allowing for small class sizes with approximately 18 students per classroom. Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree; ability to communicate complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs; ability to articulate program requirements to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, partner units, etc.; ability to use relational skills such as active listening, interviewing/ questioning techniques; demonstrates basic communication skills; demonstrates basic multi-cultural and inclusion skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; basic knowledge and application of university’s and unit’s advising policies, such as drop deadlines, override requirements, petition process, faculty rules, registrar processes, etc.; higher-education experience; general knowledge of academic advising, including general education, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc., knowledge of general education requirements and learning outcomes; understands demographics of their unit’s student population; ability to identify a student’s progress toward a degree.
