Position Summary:
The Division of Academic Affairs at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Advising Support Center. Reporting to the Vice Provost, this inaugural role will provide campus-wide strategic leadership, expertise, and oversight in best-practice undergraduate advising for a new, campus-wide Advising Support Center. The college has an overall decentralized academic advising structure, and the center’s director will work collaboratively with school deans and assistant deans, department chairs, faculty advisors, and professional staff whose responsibilities are related to academic advising, to foster excellence in advising and to strengthen the culture of advising. The director and center will work in collaboration with a number of offices, such as the Career Center and Center for Student Success and Mentoring, as well as the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to provide campus-wide training events and community building. The director will also provide direct advising to students, which may include students who begin college without a declared major (i.e., undeclared, exploratory), students with declared majors from high-demand areas, and/or students with complex situations (e.g., transitioning between majors, experiencing academic barriers to graduation). The director will build the center; initially supervising, training, and mentoring one full-time staff member, two graduate student assistants, and student peer advisors. The director will also develop an assessment strategy that fosters continuous improvement in advising.

· Education/Credentials
o Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an area related to the position, such as Counseling, Career Counseling or Development, Education and Human Development, Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Leadership, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
o Affiliation with the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)
· Experience/Knowledge in Undergraduate Advising
o Five years’ experience of progressively responsible experience, demonstrating advising and higher education management experience.
o Significant experience with training others in advising best practices.
o Familiarity with the use of current technology in advising.
o Experience advising undergraduate students in a range of programs.
· Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice
o Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and respectively with persons with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
o Demonstrated understanding of the advising needs of diverse groups (e.g., low-socioeconomic, first-generation, underrepresented students of color, non-traditional, and individuals needing additional support for college-level work).
· Management/Leadership
o Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative and team environment
o Record of setting strategic goals and working with teams to accomplish these goals.
o Experience with budgets, including involvement in developing budgets and managing expenses.
