Job Description –Special Education Teacher

The Camphill School has a current opening for a Special Education Teacher. Come join our dedicated staff at our rural Chester County school where we have been providing individualized hands-on learning opportunities, fulfilling work, and meaningful social connections to children and youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1963. Here, The Camphill School’s Waldorf Curriculum is adapted to meet the individual needs of our students. Traditional academic subjects are balanced with a strong art and music program and a practical hands-on approach. Our focus on functional skills integrates concepts, art and experience. Instruction is individualized to meet the needs and goals expressed in each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment
• Develop and implement age-appropriate educational activities that are grounded in the educational principles and best practices of Curative, Waldorf and Special Education that are based on adaptations of the Waldorf curriculum
• Provide direct remedial and specialized instructions to both individual small groups in the areas of functional academic (reading, writing, math) skills, and functional life-skills
• Teach content lessons (Main Lesson) in thematic units as scheduled
• All other duties related to support of the specific class assigned, such as: parent communication; staff management, training and communication; maintaining classroom
• Administrative duties, such as: participate in development, implementation and compliance of IEP; data collection for the purpose of progress monitoring of students’ IEP goals; writing trimester reports; administer standardized and informal tests, as needed; participate in IEP team meetings
• Prepare and participate in child conferences as scheduled
• Work collaboratively with class assistants, para-professionals and other instructional staff in a friendly, professional manner
• Work collaboratively with therapists to discuss student progress
• Be knowledgeable about and implement school policies
• Attend teachers’ faculty meetings and additionally scheduled meetings
• Attend training sessions (First-Aid/CPR, CPI, etc.) held throughout the academic year at The Camphill School

Qualifications

• BA in relevant field
• PA Special Education Certificate
• Previous teaching experience

Job Type: Full-time during school terms

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:15AM-4:15PM
