Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.

Major/Essential Functions

• Responsible for the direct supervision of the Engineering Computing Services team who help maintain the college’s IT infrastructure and computer resources.
• Coordinate the networking of servers, computers and other systems with an outside department. Coordinate with architects/builders in the design of computing facilities and the placement of equipment.
• Responsible for the procurement, deployment, administration, operation and maintenance of enterprise-class computing systems including but not limited to: Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems, Active Directory Domains, Databases & Applications
• Serve as IT Division Network Site Coordinator (NSC) and IT security point of contact for the Whitacre College of Engineering.
• Provides technical expertise and support for server operating systems, desktop operating systems, hardware, security, databases, utilities and backup/recovery functions for academic and administrative areas.
• Interface with IT Division and other technology partners at on and off campus events to advance college goals as needed.
• Plan, direct and evaluate computing operations, systems and production services using manpower, time, funds and other resources for the accomplishment of the long and short term goals.
• Serve as Project Manager for technology projects in the college.
• Develop interactive computing services to provide efficient delivery of services directly to academic users.
• Assist research areas with procurement and support of computer systems.
• Organize, work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize goals and exercise independent judgment based on understanding of the college’s policies and activities.
• Apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with peers, users and outside vendors. Analyze problems and logically determine a plan to solve the problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or as requested by college leadership.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMI certification or equivalent training
• Applicable industry certifications (HDI, CompTIA, Microsoft, Citrix, etc)
• Knowledge of desktop, printer, technologies, server & storage hardware and their corresponding modern operating systems and application packages.
• Experience in providing technical support to an academic environment.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Management experience of a technical team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and support cases through prioritization.
• Basic use of TechBuy or other eProcurement system.
