The Library Specialist I, reports to the Co-Head of Public Services and provides general customer service and standard or routine library functions related to various specialized disciplines. Performs standard library functions in one or more library units.
Hours: Saturdays; 12-6pm
Responsibilities:
Circulation Service Desk:
Coordinates with the Co-Head of Public Services to address patron and staff issues
Performs customer service and support at the library.
Assists in basic functions and processes in the library’s circulation area. This includes checking resources in and out; opening and closing the library; answering directional questions; answering the telephone; answering basic questions about library resources, guidelines, and procedures; issuing and updating library cards and records; assisting with the maintenance of library reserves and holds; keeping statistics as directed; pulling materials and assisting with interlibrary lending processes; and directing user complaints.
Assists in basic functions and processes related to printer and copier services. This includes fixing paper jams, monitoring paper levels, replacing toner, performing binding, and performing laminating.
Stacks:
Assists in basic functions and processes related to stack maintenance. This includes shelving materials in all formats, shelf reading, searching for missing materials, and shifting materials in the library stacks.
Library Service:
Attends staff meetings.
Maintains an awareness of current library issues and trends affecting circulation through ongoing training.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-One year of related library experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of email and internet search engines.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Basic keyboarding skills.
Other Requirements:
Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
