Summary:
The IACUC Program Coordinator is a position within the Office of the Vice President for Research’s Compliance office and works in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) unit. Responsibilities are to support and assist with the direct oversight of the protocol review and approval process and providing administrative support to the Committee. The position also provides support to the Compliance Coordinator assisting with post-approval monitoring of IACUC protocols to ensure that laboratory animal research is performed in accordance with university approved IACUC protocols and federal regulations. This position requires being comfortable working in a typical compliance unit: fast-paced, team-oriented and collaborative, and being sensitive to the confidential nature of IACUC work.

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) collaborates with Temple University researchers and external partners to promote meaningful scholarship, uphold research integrity, and foster new discoveries that make a significant impact in communities.
OVPR is responsible for Research Administration, Research Compliance, Research Development, Technology Commercialization and Business Development, and Electronic Research Administration. Our departments work to support and advance Temple’s research and innovation ecosystem.

Required Education & Experience:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Essential Functions:
Receives and provides initial reviews of Animal Use Protocols for completeness and compliance with University policies, Institutional requirements, and State/Federal regulations prior to submission to the IACUC; Provides accurate and timely IACUC correspondence and written reports as required including correspondence related to non-compliant items identified and related corrective actions; Screens IACUC protocol applications and recommends level of review; Oversees all aspects of the IACUC review cycle from initial intake of the protocol to final approval; Coordinates and participates in IACUC semi-annual facilities inspections and conducts follow-up inspection visits; Coordinates and participates in post approval monitoring inspections and conducts follow-up inspection visits; Coordinates and participates in investigation of non-compliant activities and provides guidance and oversight to correct issues found; Provides training and education guidance to faculty, staff and students engaged in animal research; Provides timely and accurate guidance to faculty, staff and student investigators on preparation and submission of new protocol applications, periodic project review reports, protocol amendments and/or revisions, changes in study status, etc; Prepares and distributes meeting agendas and compliance related materials for committee review; Oversees the recording and production of official minutes of all IACUC meetings; performs editorial review of minutes to ensure proper documentation of IACUC actions; Works with Lab Animal module and eRA teams to synchronize related business practices, system improvements, modification to protocol forms, and submission routing processes; Cross-trains in all areas of IACUC and serve as a liaison between the University and federal and accreditation inspectors and officials; Other compliance support as required to support the Assistant Director or OVPR leadership; Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and three years’ experience in animal research.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Working knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IACUC and animal welfare
*Familiarity with animal research protocols, post approval monitoring and IACUC procedures
*Working knowledge of medical terminology
*Fluency and comfort working with computers, online systems, and working in a hybrid environment
*Demonstrated computer skills, and proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access or comparable software packages
*Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail
*Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituent population
Preferred:
*Experience in animal science, biology, animal-related anthropology or psychology, or relevant field.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
