Position Summary:
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Susquehanna University invites applications for a tenure track position in French Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2024. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French and demonstrate an ability to teach French language at all levels as well as a range of courses in French and Francophone cultures and literary studies. A 3/3 course load is standard.
Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in teaching and advising undergraduates is essential, as is ongoing scholarly productivity and institutional service. We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on French in its global context and who demonstrate a teaching and scholarly interest in related areas (e.g., Africana studies, Caribbean studies, or Indian Ocean studies). As the sole full-time faculty member in French studies, the successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong commitment to program-building, including student recruitment.
Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in French or Francophone studies (or related field) is required by date of appointment. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French and demonstrate an ability to teach French language at all levels as well as a range of courses in French and Francophone cultures and literary studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on French in its global context and who demonstrate a teaching and scholarly interest in related areas (e.g., Africana studies, Caribbean studies, or Indian Ocean studies).
