The director-curator of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art at State Fair Community College provides the artistic oversight, strategic
leadership, and management expertise for the museum through their specialized knowledge of contemporary art and the varied disciplines of
the museum field.
JOB OBJECTIVES
Program development & management: Steer the planning
and implementation of the artistic and educational programming, including six to nine exhibitions annually, workshops, speakers series, and
community events that reflect the college’s and museum’s mission and further engages local communities.
Permanent
collection: Responsible for identifying, selecting, and securing all works for museum’s collection. Ensure the best possible
and most judicious expenditure of acquisition funds, encourage/secure donor gifts of art, and assess/determine quality, relevance, and
appropriateness of each work of art acquired for the permanent collection. Demonstrated ability to build, assess, interpret, and care for a
major art collection.
Museum operations: Oversee all museum operations and determine the vision and artistic
direction for the museum working within SFCC policies/regulations and strategic plans. Ensure museum bylaws, vision, mission, and guiding
principles are fully articulated and sustained. Oversee preparation and implementation of the museum’s annual budget. Serve as a
spokesperson and advocate for the museum, enhancing the public image throughout the community. Actively engage and energize museum
volunteers and members, partnering organizations, and funders. Develop effective working relationships within the college and community to
build support and engagement.
Fundraising: Plan and direct fundraising strategies in cooperation with the SFCC
Foundation to support programming and organizational goals. Work to conceive and execute fundraising strategies, in terms of individual
donor cultivation, events, memberships, grants, and endowments.
