St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking an Assistant Manager for Ruth’s Marketplace. This position supports the day-to-day operation of the meal service plan and the overall operation of the Marketplace. This is a working manager position responsible for being out on the floor, supporting the “front of the house” team and troubleshooting issues as they occur. The Assistant Manager ensures the smooth operation of the meal plan service during lunch and dinner. The regular work hours are Monday – Friday, Noon – 9:00 p.m.
Specific responsibilities:
Oversee the staff operational components of lunch and dinner meal service in Ruth’s Marketplace including managing up to 80+ student and regular staff. Works in conjunction with Assistant Manager – AM to ensure smooth daily operation of Ruth’s Marketplace. – 60%
Hire, mentor, and perform other employment related actions, including annual performance evaluations for direct reports. Schedule staff and approve time sheets. Assists in developing and executing staff training, as needed. – 20%
Ensure the safe use of equipment and maintaining food prep/service sanitation guidelines. Administer and adhere to all Dining Services Policies and Procedures. – 5%
Facilitate staff interaction with other dining departments, such as Production, Catering, Campus Card, and Event Services. – 5%
Work daily with PM Sous Chef and Assistant Head Chef to ensure successful meal plan execution and flow of meals through Ruth’s Marketplace. Assist the Manager of Ruth’s Marketplace in electronic menu posting, social media updating, and nutrition information posting. – 5%
Assist with administrative duties involving budget tracking reports. – 5%
Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

140+ student workers.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education –
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associates Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management preferred.
Experience and Credentials –
3 to 5 years of experience in an institutional food service setting.
3 to 5 years of experience in staff supervision.
Serve Safe Certification preferred.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities –
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.
Ability to talk politely and resolve customer service issues.
Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.
Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.
Skilled at setting a good example for others.
Skilled at organizing events, programs, projects and see them through to completion.
Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.
Ability to pass a post offer functional capacity test.

Equipment Used:
Computer with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, phone, calculator, printer/copier, and other general office equipment. Hobart dish machine, disposals, food pulper, floor scrubber, stoves, ovens, grills, frozen yogurt machine, hot and cold holding cabinets and wells.
Working Conditions:
Regular work hours are M – F, Noon – 9:00 p.m. working on campus with frequent interruptions throughout the day. Works rotating weekends for training needs and special event weekends as needed to support College business (i.e. Summer Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Alumni Reunion Weekend, SNC Day, Commencement weekend, etc.). Summer hours based on the needs of the business and may include daytime hours and weekends in lieu of regularly scheduled hours.

Generally a position that needs to move throughout the dining room for most of the day. Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs but only occasionally. Lifting above the waist occasionally up to 25 lbs. Pushing and pulling dish racks and steam table pans weighing up to 25 lbs occasionally. Will need to move within the production area and building with occasional meetings in other buildings on campus. Position will need to in extreme temperatures (freezers) only occasionally as well.
