Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville is currently seeking a Director for the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub. The Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub is the result of a recent merger between the Kimmel Student Involvement Center and the Inclusive Excellence, Education, and Development Hub, an effort to better position the university to deliver services and offer programming to advance student success and inclusive excellence, nurture belonging and well-being for all students; and provide opportunities that support students’ development into culturally competent, socially responsible leaders on campus, at work and in their communities. The role of the Director will be to work with the SIUE campus and community to meet the mission of the space—to create meaningful collaborations that curate transformational experiences where students learn to define their purpose and identify their impact.
The Director will support students, faculty, staff, and community partners to educate and empower in a vibrant and inclusive space that fosters belonging. This position will direct and support the development of enrichment opportunities as well as programs and services that meet the educational, cultural, social, and diverse needs of the university community to enhance campus life. The Director will also be expected to strengthen the collaborative relationships between academic affairs, university units and the community to enrich student learning and engagement opportunities which will enhance their co-curricular experience.
Additionally, this position will support the assessments necessary to ensure the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub is meeting its goals and continuously improving the quality of its services. The Director will develop, review, implement and interpret appropriate policies as needed for the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub as well as share recommendations as needed with appropriate offices on campus to ensure student belonging and engagement experiences are handled in an equitable manner. This may be via membership on committees or meeting individually with departments, offices, or individuals to advocate for policy updates and changes outside of the scope of responsibility and accountability of the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub.
The Director will also provide leadership and administrative management for the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub including direct supervision of three associate directors, and indirect supervision of one assistant director, seven coordinators, three graduate assistants, one office manager, two office support specialists, and student employees. This position will collaborate with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Excellence, Education and Development on special projects or assignments expected to be executed by the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub and ensure initiatives are aligned with the institutional strategic plan goals, Student Affairs learning goals, ADEI goals and uses shared resources and frameworks.
The Director will have the knowledge and ability to offer guidance in the areas of Leadership, Training, and Governance; Empathy, Humility, and Action; large- and small-scale programming; and fraternity and sorority life. This includes but is not limited to a strong understanding of belonging and engagement; antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion topics and trends; logistics for programming for the campus and community, including advisement of student groups and their responsibilities for such programs; and an understanding of growing an inclusive leadership and community engagement portfolio. The Director may also be asked to serve on campus committees where representatives of the divisions (Student Affairs and Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and or the Kimmel Student and Engagement Hub need to be included.
