Role functions as a student academic advisor in a multi-site University System of Georgia college, reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Career and Academic Advising for Student Success within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. The position will be based primarily on the Douglas campus with travel to Waycross.
Responsibilities
Advising – Advise students with regards to their educational, career, personal and social development needs. Refer students to academic and personal resources as appropriate.
Assist students in all pathways.
Interpret Policies –
Clarify and interpret academic policies and degree requirements.
Understand requirements for all degree programs and make appropriate referrals for advising in baccalaureate programs.
Student Files –
Maintain and update student files, records and reports.
Ensure compliance with FERPA regulations.
Student Transition Services –
Facilitate programs that help students explore career and bachelor¿s degree options. Assist students in the transition from high school to college and provide appropriate referral to College offices and resources as needed.
Participate in a variety of initiatives to support student success.
Monitor Student Progress –
Monitor student academic progress and provide developmental programming focused on student academic needs.
Advise, monitor, and work closely with students on academic probation and those returning from academic suspension.
Other Duties –
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Collaboration –
Assist in training faculty and staff advisors.
Participate in new student orientations and other advising events.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Required Experience
One (1) year related work/apprenticeship/internship experiences.
Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Banner system preferred
Proposed Salary
Proposed Salary $38,732.80 plus Benefits.

Knowledge of BANNER advising/registration system
Knowledge of Board of Regents policies
Knowledge of University System of Georgia policies
Knowledge of rules and regulations related to remedial courses
Knowledge of student support services
Knowledge of general financial aid rules
Knowledge of general transfer policies
Knowledge of degree audit programs
SKILLS
Skill in the provision of advising to potential and current students
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions
High-level skill in oral and written communication
Excellent customer service skills

The position requires completion of SGSC annual compliance training course such as State Business Transactions, Drug free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interests/Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Contracts 101.
Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Workers Compensation.
