Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director for Accounting and Financial Reporting (Associate Director), with additional lead work direction from the Senior Director for Accounting and Financial Reporting for University and Auxiliaries, the Accountant independently performs the full range of professional accounting work for the University and the centralized accounting functions for Associated Students (AS). The incumbent is responsible for supporting month-end and year-end close, which entails correction and reconciliation of University financial transactions, providing guidance for accounting problems and application of accounting standards for both colleagues in the department and representatives in campus departments. The Accountant is integral in continuously evaluating existing operational practices and adaptations necessary to maintain compliance with ever-changing general and governmental accounting standards. Contacts involve interaction with all levels inside and outside the University, and may include dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
Key Qualifications
This position requires the equivalent to two years’ of progressively responsible professional accounting experience and possess the equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field or possess a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Accounting major highly preferred. Thorough knowledge of GAAP is required. Requires strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Adobe PDF. Experience with using Google Suite, Common Financial System (CFS) Data Warehouse and PeopleSoft is preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $4,452 to $5,584 a month a month. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
