The Department of Art at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor position in Drawing beginning September 2024. We have historically delivered strong programs in Drawing including Drawing I, II, III and Special Topics in Drawing: Life Drawing, Narrative Drawing, and Comix & Sequential Art. The primary teaching focus of this position is drawing, with likely opportunities to teach painting. Candidates must have an expertise in foundation drawing; experience teaching intermediate and advanced levels is preferable. We desire candidates who foster collaboration across other departmental disciplines and are open to non-traditional approaches. Our facilities include four large studios dedicated to Drawing instruction as well as five additional studios dedicated to Painting, Color Theory, and group critiques/presentations.
We seek a skilled, productive artist with an active exhibition record and expertise in teaching at the undergraduate level (teaching experience beyond the Teaching Assistant level is desirable). The selected candidate will teach nine drawing courses every two academic years, alternating between five courses one year and four courses the next. Additionally, the candidate will mentor students and occasionally teach one course in Skidmore’s First-Year Experience. Other commitments include advising and serving on committees.
The Art Department and College invites candidates who can contribute inclusive teaching to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community. We especially encourage individuals from underrepresented groups, or who have experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds to apply. All candidates are asked to address Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) matters as part of their application materials (see below).
The application deadline is Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024.
