Primary Function:
To perform routine custodial duties for facilities and their immediate areas according to established standard operating procedures, practices, and methods to the required appearance and performance standards in order to provide an environment that is clean, safe, and sanitary for the community members to live, learn, and work. The position must adhere to all safety and regulatory guidelines and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Supports the mission of the University and the department, including receptivity to new initiatives as may be set forth by the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability (OESS).
This position receives direct supervision in which assignments and instructions are clearly and regularly explained. Completed assignments are routinely reviewed by the supervisor for correctness.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Cleans offices, classrooms, residential spaces, and restroom facilities.Replenishes supplies in public use areas, private baths, custodial closets, and carts.Sweeps, dust mops, wet mops, vacuums, strips, and waxes floors on a regular basis.Wash and clean walls, doors, windows, and sills on a regular basis. Dusts, waxes, and cleans furniture and equipment, baseboards, and window sills.Removes trash and recyclable materials to containment areas.Resets furniture in classroom areas and public spaces as necessary.Reports building security problems, damaged structures or equipment, and other maintenance problems to the supervisor or lead worker. Cleans grounds adjacent to assigned building(s).Operates various mechanical, electrical, and battery-operated machines to aid in performing the above tasks and duties.Attend training and information sessions as required.Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Machines & Equipment Used:
Vacuum cleaner (upright and handheld), wet vac, floor shampooer, carpet extractor, ladders, and related equipment.

Experience:
Six months of experience in janitorial or related custodial work.

Custodians have access to room/office contents & personal belongings of students and employees when cleaning dorms and University offices.
Working Environment: Various buildings throughout campus – academic building, athletic facilities, residential living spaces, rental housing units, and other areas as assigned. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.Must be able to walk for extended periods of time.Must be able to climb (many stairs, ladders).Must be able to crawl and or kneel for extended periods of time.Must be able to push and/or pull objects.Must be able to use feet for repetitive tasks.Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks.Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds and carry working loads up to 50 pounds (Medium work) without assistance.Must be able to carry equipment, furniture, and other items upstairs.
