What You’ll Do

The underwriting tech intern will provide customer service for and assistance to underwriters by handling the acceptance/decline of new/renewed policies for national and large accounts in commercial insurance.

Our Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant internship offers opportunities to:

• Perform basic underwriting assistant duties within guidelines
• Prepare renewals and incoming applications for underwriting review, quote submissions, completing billing and issue instructions, processing of policy changes, reinsurance, rating and endorsements.
• Provide customer service through both written and verbal communication on a wide variety of information regarding insurance products, services, rates, billings, policy changes, quotes, and various other insurance related questions.
• Perform the preparatory work associated with the acquisition of new accounts or renewal of existing accounts including evaluation for completeness and follow-up for missing information.
• Correspond with customers, brokers, bureaus or others to secure information needed.
• Assist with the changes of policies
• Run various reports regarding property, losses, claims, etc.
• May perform work on special project to enhance department performance.

What it Takes

To be considered for this position, the following criteria is necessary:

• Pursuing an undergraduate or associate degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, Communication, or a related field
• Obtain a minimum in-major GPA of 3.00
• Expected graduation in Fall of 2024 or Spring of 2025
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere
• Solid technical skills and ability to quickly learn various applications
• Detail oriented and ability to analyze data
• Sentry does not offer employment in this position to holders of F-1, J-1, and H-1 Visas for the purpose of obtaining practical experience
