Position Summary
Under general direction from the Department Chair, the Graduate Programs Administrative Support Coordinator has primary responsibility for providing administrative support to four faculty members who coordinate the Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology joint doctoral programs, as well as the masters program.
The Graduate Programs Administrative Support Coordinator is the primary contact and provides administrative support for the Field Stations Program and includes program support and budget maintenance for the FSP. The incumbent will also have responsibility for administrative support with faculty searches, assist with department events and commencement, and will provide backup support for purchasing and faculty appointments in the department as needed.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Biology Department consists of ~40 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 2 full-time faculty lecturers, ~100 graduate teaching associates and graduate assistants, many adjunct faculty, a facilities coordinator, a student services professional, one confidential II position, two administrative support coordinator II positions (one is the administrative department coordinator), 10 technical/instructional support staff and ~6-7 work-study/student assistants per semester.
The SDSU Field Station Programs (FSP) is a university-wide resource that supports academic programs by providing opportunities for teaching and research that deal with native California ecosystems and natural landscapes. The management and oversight of Sky Oaks Field Station, Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve, and Fortuna Mountain Research Reserve for research and university programs is the core function of the FSP. Program staff and affiliated faculty represent SDSU in the larger field oriented scientific community, including collaborations with the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, USCD’s HPWREN, and field stations nationwide. The FSP works cooperatively with public and private organizations on projects of mutual interest, and in general promotes the university in the region, nationally, and internationally.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,000 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,681 – $6,034 per month.
