Samuel Merritt University is recruiting a full-time faculty
member to join our dynamic, collaborative Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. We are a health sciences-focused university located in
beautiful Oakland, California, an urban community that is rich in diversity, the arts, and multicultural immersion. Samuel Merritt
University has a long history of educating ethical, caring, compassionate, highly skilled health professionals. In addition to our DPT
program, the College of Health Sciences offers Occupational Therapy and Physician Assistant programs. Our College of Nursing offers multiple
programs in both undergraduate and graduate nursing, and the California School of Podiatric Medicine offers a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
degree program.
Employment at Samuel Merritt University means being part of a community that values education and its impact on the
world. The DPT faculty is collaborative, supportive, and increasingly diverse. The DPT faculty strive to use innovative teaching and
learning pedagogies, including technology, with an emphasis in grounded educational theory to enhance student outcomes. In addition to
recently renovated laboratory space, the campus has a state-of-the-art Movement Analysis Research Center (MARC) and a robust, accredited
Health Science Simulation Center (HSSC). Believing that diversity and inclusivity contribute to academic excellence and to enriching and
empowering communities, SMU and the DPT Department are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. We
seek candidates whose work and values will further our equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, and who bring varied experiences,
perspectives, and backgrounds to our community.
Responsibilities:
Teach entry-level DPT students in areas of
contemporary expertise and general professional curriculum content areas; participate in research, scholarship, and dissemination activities
according to University and CAPTE requirements; and participate in department, university, professional, and community service. Faculty are
expected to work collaboratively to continually update and enrich the curriculum.
The position is a twelve-month, full-time
appointment. The DPT program enrolls 50 students each year into our full-time, 32-month program. The curriculum emphasizes integrated active
learning experiences throughout the students’ matriculation, during didactic trimesters, and through clinical experiences.
