Research Duties:
To assist and help perform all aspects of research conducted by the Rutgers Acute Care Surgery Research Lab (basic science, translational, and outcomes research) related to the pathophysiology of diseases relevant to Acute Care Surgery, with particular emphasis in surgical artificial intelligence, surgical simulation, and surgical innovation.
To publish in major peer-reviewed journals and obtain independent research funding.
Work with the Rutgers Acute Care Surgery Research lab [RASR Lab] to help generate acute care surgery research. This includes, but is not limited to, clinical outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or palliative care research.
Obtain necessary funding for research activities.
Ensure all reporting timelines and requirements met per sponsor, department or university.
Candidates are expected to contribute to teach medical students, graduate students, residents and fellows on research methodology, study design, and implementation, data analysis, and abstract and manuscript development.
Create space within each research projects for medical student, resident, and/or fellow participation to promote research education as appropriate.
Maintain master log of projects, society abstract deadlines, assist with abstract and manuscript submissions.
Serve on divisional, departmental, or Medical School committees as deemed appropriate by the Division Chief, Chair and/or Dean of RWJMS.
Build professional working relationships with RASR lab research partners to facilitate research processes such as institutional review board (IRB) protocols, data use agreements (DUAs), statistical analysis, and maintaining/trouble shooting data repository systems
Work closely with the Department of Surgery’s finance team and grant administrators to facilitate budget drafting for independent research funding
Maintain working knowledge of financing for each research activity to ensure funding is on track per agreement.
Attend and assist with standing RASR lab meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience
The successful applicant should have a record or interest in cross-disciplinary collaborative translational research, have completed postdoctoral training with a PhD, MD PhD, or MD degree, and possess a record of scholarly activity.
