Responsibilities:

The Network Engineer is responsible for the technical architecture, design, implementation, support, and continuity of the organization’s network infrastructure. This organization’s network infrastructure includes, but is not limited to, Production and Development Servers, LAN, WAN, Wireless Bridging, QoS, and firewalls. The person in this position will work closely with other IT staff members to ensure very high levels of network availability, security, and efficiency. The Network Engineer will be a technical resource for network production operations, support, and relevant systems projects.

Essential Functions:

• Provide leadership in the research, design, implementation, and documenting strategic network planning for future directions of the enterprise network and wide area network infrastructure, following the industry best practices
• Collaborate with management, IT team members, and others to assess near, and long-term network capacity needs.
• Configure and deploy company servers, LANs, WANs, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Wireless Access Points, and other required hardware.,
• Monitor and report on network systems performance, help identify network trends. and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation that may include technical specification information.
• Mentoring and teaching others to ensure that the department has adequate coverage at all times.
• Must be able to confidently communicate and interpret intermediate information in English to all public and RIBC staff members.

Other Functions:

• Provide excellent customer service to all customers, including other IT team members.
• Participate and support DR/BC planning.

• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping. processes, and service records.
• Serve as the highest point of escalation to incidents in the network infrastructure.
• Participate in the organization’s change management process.
• Be able to explain very complex technical issues to a non-technical person.
• Monitor and report on network systems performance, help identify network trends and troubleshoot problem areas.
• Makes recommendations to improve organizational processes.
• Any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.

Experience:

• Five years of data center design and support experience.
• Design and administration of, but not limited to: VMware, Exchange 20 1 0, Load Balancing, Clusters, Cisco Switches, and wireless management. AD, Group Policy, WDS, Backup strategies, DR/BC.
• Experience as a mentor.
• Experience in leading others in projects and creating a positive work environment for the team.

Any combination of education, training, experience and the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to perform the job’s essential functions.

Knowledge:

• Designing and documenting Network architecture. Designing, implementing, and maintaining Active Directory. Creating VLANs.
• VMware and other virtual technologies.
• Designing, implementing, and maintaining Group Policy. Scripting.
• Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
• Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Skills & Abilities:

• Administration and management of Cisco Switches and Access Points. Designing, implementing, and maintenance of Exchange 20 I 0.
• Cloud technology.
• Load balancing, Clustering
• Excellent project and time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail in all work processes.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• High level of interpersonal skills to handle various complex issues and situations. The position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with various staff up to and including executive leadership.
• Ability to communicate clearly and with authority, both in writing and verbally, to others in one-on-one or small group settings.
• Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and customers in a helpful, courteous, and friendly manner while demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for diverse populations.
