Position Description Summary
The Manufacturing Process Planner Estimator works with minimal supervision and reports to a manager. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating related work processes for support and customer
organizations: planning sequences of operations that involve original innovations in setups, attachments, techniques, tools, producing plans, estimates, and scheduling for complex, non-routine parts, and items of
equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials and utilizes independent interpretation and translation of workorders, drawings, and specifications based on manpower, material, and tools.
Work products are plans, estimates, and processes requiring a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility. Assignments typically involve detailing processes, prices, and estimates based on engineering drawings, evaluation of current capabilities (tools, machines, and personnel), outlining machining processes of surfaces at unusual or compound angles. Manufacturing Process Planners have a thorough knowledge of advanced shop mathematics and machine; have skill in using geometric and trigonometric formulas to compute compound angles, angular indexing, hole patterns, pitch lead, and pitch diameters. The Planners will work with designers, engineers, and
manufacturing personnel in work order and process preparations. This position makes independent judgements and decisions and has leeway in methods and processes for accomplishing assignments. Responsible for
recommending and using methods and procedures that contribute toward more efficient and economic fabrication and assembly operations, greater dimensional accuracy, or savings in machine time. Work assignments require a high level of skill and ingenuity in their completion. They often require accomplishing untried tasks, procedures and
prototypes: making independent interpretation and translation of work orders, drawings and specifications that may be lacking in such items as dimensions, tolerances and types of fit and finish. Additional assignments may include
performing labor in any of the processes involved in fabrication and assembly. This position requires the ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of and skill in reading/understanding of blueprints, sketches, drawings, sample parts, parts programs or other work specifications.
