The Library seeks a self-motivated individual with a strong public service orientation to work in the Fulfillment Services unit located in Firestone Library.
This position will serve as the primary point of contact for all matters related to the accessibility of various library resources, including both print and digital materials. Implementing the Library’s and the University’s strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, this position assumes the responsibility of managing the digitization and remediation of materials to make them accessible to patrons with disabilities, ensuring that Princeton University’s education and research needs are met while promoting equitable access for all.
The position will leverage expertise in digitization and remediation technologies to foster effective operational collaboration with campus stakeholders such as the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and Office of Information Technology (OIT) in support of these goals.
Responsibilities
This Specialist evaluates the accessibility of born-digital and already digitized materials, and the feasibility and methods of appropriate digitization of physical materials.
The position consults with faculty on course-based expectations for access to textual, visual or other-format content; evaluates any remediations needed, and provides the services to meet specific course-based and individual scholarly research needs. The Specialist serves as the key liaison between the Library and all other accessibility service providers and advocates on campus.
The position represents PUL’s and the University’s content-accessibility needs with external partnerships and consortial organizations (e.g. HathiTrust, Center for Research Libraries, IPLC, ReCAP). They will coordinate with PUL Finance & Acquisitions and IT Departments to implement specialized product and service requisitions from commercial vendors as needed.
The Specialist manages the end-to-end submission, processing and fulfillment of requests and materials, monitors progress and validates quality of deliverables provided.
They will provide one-on-one consultations with patrons to tailor services to their requirements. In strict adherence to the University’s Digital Accessibility Policy, the Specialist continually develops and maintains the currency of their expertise in the evolving field of accessibility digitization and remediation. The position will stay abreast of the latest advancements in remediation technologies, copyright intricacies, and the impacts of emerging media formats, and how they might apply to the Library context at PUL.
Qualifications
Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8:45am-5:00pm; Summer 8:30am-4:30pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
