The Prince William County, Department of Social Services is looking for a Human Services Caseworker for our Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations Night Team. This position is part of a unique evening team that is responsible for the Protective Service responses from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. You will address emergency cases primarily for child protective services but occasionally for adult protective services and foster care.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
In this role, you will investigate allegations of abuse and neglect and assess clients who might be in imminent danger. You will develop safety plans, provide crisis intervention, make referrals to community resources, and monitor client’s progress. You will document client contacts and prepare reports for case reviews and court hearings. You will work closely with police, county attorneys and other professionals to prepare cases and testify in court hearings. Your job requires skill and tact in order to work effectively with individuals, family members, and professionals on sensitive, controversial and confidential topics. You may be exposed to potentially dangerous situations, so you will be expected to implement required safety policies and practices.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
In this position you will Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect to assess for imminent danger for children; Interview clients and develop appropriate safety plans; Provide crisis management interventions and coordinate support services to resolve problems and conflicts; Make referrals to community resources; Monitor client’s progress and ensure that service plans are followed; Document all contacts and ensure that all paperwork is accurately completed and filed; Complete necessary case information reports and make updates into databases; Prepare court documents such as petitions, reports, and case reviews; Attend and testify at court hearings; Comply with all federal, state and local policies and procedures.
You will need experience in child protective services including conducting social work investigations and performing crisis interventions; Strong knowledge of local, state and federal child welfare policies and practices; Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; Ability to work independently and in consultation with partnering agencies such as police and mental health
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in the human services field; or Bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years appropriate and related experience in a human services related area.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $62,613.00 – $92,293.00 Annually
