Position Summary:
This supervisory position is responsible for executing activities relating to the design, selection and programming of electro-mechanical systems, trouble-shooting electro-mechanical systems, and department administration. The engineering supervisor shall ensure all department activities are effectively coordinated with other functional departments within the division (Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Maintenance, EH&S, Purchasing etc.) in accordance with the defined stage gate review process. As the controls engineering supervisor, this position shall also provide leadership to the facility and controls engineers. This position will report directly to the R&D and Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Scope/ Supervision and Interaction:
Leads own projects in addition to providing guidance on projects being managed by other team members within the group. Provides technical support in the area of electro-mechanical design and development; Controls Engineering Supervisor facilitates incorporation of current controls practices and standards into new system designs and improves existing systems designs in support of issues in manufacturing, upgrading of existing equipment and developing new equipment that supports the WIN Strategy.
Essential Functions:
Technical support to manufacturing and manufacturing engineering.
Independently defines tasks and efficiently applies department resources to ensure their timely completion. Prioritize and direct daily department activities to ensure effective and efficient completion of department objectives.
Department administration which includes performance evaluations, career planning, hiring of new employees, employee training and development, team building activities, disciplinary action, budgeting, etc.
Initiation and continuous improvement of good programming practices and procedures. This includes implementing redesign to improve manufacturing and to eliminate potential production & safety related issues.
Review and approval of the group’s controls engineering output for accuracy and correctness.
Ensure the controls team is following the staged gate review process for project development. Outputs include electrical prints, programs, specifications, and technical reports.
Qualifications:
Education: B.S. Engineering
Job Experience: 15 years controls experience and 5 years supervisory experience.
Any deviations from above requirements (e.g. substituting more work experience for education) will be evaluated by the Division Engineering Manager.
