Vice President, People, Culture, and Belonging
Overview: Pacifica Graduate Institute seeks a Vice President of People, Culture,
and Belonging. Directly reporting to the President & CEO, this senior leadership role embodies our unwavering commitment to nurturing an
environment where diversity, equity, inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are integral to our core values. The ideal candidate will bring a
passion for and deep understanding of Pacifica’s mission, vision, and values, coupled with an innovative leadership approach to drive
transformative change within Human Resources and our organizational culture.
In this executive leadership role, the Vice President
will be a beacon for DEIB values, developing and implementing a visionary strategy that embeds these principles deeply into the fabric of
our community. By engaging with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and community partners, this role will advance behaviors,
attitudes, and policies that support a culture of inclusivity. Collaborating with diverse stakeholders, the Vice President will identify
challenges, craft strategic solutions, and operationalize Pacifica.
This role will require a visionary leader who can integrate
Pacifica’s strategic goals into every aspect of human resources and organizational development, ensuring our Institute continues to lead in
the field of depth psychology while maintaining a culture that values every member of our community.
Core Responsibilities
• Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion: Act as a strategic partner in collaboration with leadership to champion diversity, equity,
inclusion, and belonging in all practices throughout the organization. Promote a commitment to the organization’s diversity initiatives
through conversations with the Board, President & CEO, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the broader Pacifica community.
• Culture: Act as the culture ambassador by defining ways to identify and reinforce the behaviors that exemplify organizational
values. Implement organizational strategies to promote employee engagement and collaborate with key stakeholders to enhance a positive and
engaged culture.
• Motivational Leadership: Lead, motivate, and inspire staff and help them navigate change and adversity.
Communicate information to employees promptly and actively participate in the success of various programs and initiatives with leadership,
faculty, staff, and students.
• Professional Development: Play a pertinent role in improving performance around attracting,
motivating, and rewarding people. Develop strategies for succession planning with managers and aid in developing high performing
leaders.
• Community: Engage and create deeper partnerships with the Santa Barbara community, including local institutions of
higher learning, such as Santa Barbara City College, University of California Santa Barbara, Fielding University, etc. PROSPECTUS 7
Additional Duties Include:
• Collaborate with leadership to create and implement programs to ensure fair and equitable treatment
of students, administrators, faculty, staff, and alumni.
• Lead the Human Resources department in developing, implementing, and
reporting on successful programs while developing new programs and initiatives.
• Manage a team of 3-4 full-time staff,
Diversity & Inclusion Council, and other committees as assigned.
• Implement strategic initiatives, including creating and
sustaining a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging culture.
• Partner with campus leaders, faculty, students, staff, and
internal and external stakeholders to ensure programming supports the Institute’s mission, values, and strategic goals.

Provide strategic instruction for training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, sexual orientation, disability, and other
topics to increase support and awareness of equity and inclusion values.
• Establish and maintain an internal reporting system
to measure various programs effectively. Assess and monitor program effectiveness and inform management of equal opportunity progress and
issues through reports.
• Gather, research, and analyze data for statistical calculations.
• Other duties as
assigned by the President and CEO.

• Direct the transformation of Human Resources into the strategic Office of People,
Culture, and Belonging, encompassing Workforce Planning, Compensation and Benefits, DEI, and Talent Development divisions. Amplify
Pacifica’s influence and reputation by integrating our People, Culture, and Belonging initiatives with the broader academic and global
communities.
Goal #2 Elevate Learner Outcomes:
• Spearhead forward-thinking DEI strategies to foster an
inclusive environment, directly elevating learner experiences and outcomes. Ensure that policies, practices, and training programs fully
align with Pacifica’s cultural ethos, branding, and leadership development needs.
Goal #3 Empower Organizational Development:
• Leverage technology, such as ADP, to streamline HR processes, transitioning staff to generalist business partners.
Collaborate with senior management to foster an engaged, supportive, and inclusive culture, reinforcing the Office of People, Culture, and
Belonging’s value proposition.
• Lead the Talent Development division to assess and address leadership development needs,
ensuring the community is prepared for future challenges and opportunities. Address behavioral issues among faculty and staff, promoting a
harmonious work environment and adherence to HR policies.
• Ensure Legal Compliance: Utilize expertise in California employment
law to maintain strict compliance with all regulations, thereby upholding policy enforcement and institutional integrity.

Ensure Fiscal Sustainability:
• Oversee the Compensation and Benefits division, developing competitive and equitable
structures to attract and retain a diverse and talented workforce. Guide the Workforce Planning division to align talent strategy with
Pacifica’s mission and financial objectives, securing the institution’s fiscal health and capacity for growth.
Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in a senior HR leadership role within a complex organization, preferably in higher education.

SHRM and California HR certifications, demonstrating deep knowledge of HR practices and legal frameworks.
• Proven track record
of leading organizational change, focusing on DEI, workforce planning, talent development, and legal compliance.
• Strong
leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage a diverse community.
• A visionary
thinker with a strategic mindset and the ability to execute plans that align with Pacifica’s mission and values.
• Demonstrated
excellence in team building, coaching, leadership, and developing high[1]performance cultures.
• Experience in developing DEIB
strategy, best practices, policies, and programs.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences.
• Bilingual abilities, with English, required and Spanish preferred.
• Professional, resourceful, respectful, and adept
listener, committed to the development and support of the Pacifica community.
