Job Summary
Mail Processors are very busy positions inside the OSU Mailing Services department. Though we are a team that shares a common mission, Mail Processors will generally have a focus in one of four units: “Campus Sort”, “Drivers”, “USPS Outbound”, and “Accountables”. Our current need is for an “Accountables” Mail Processor, but business needs may shift in the future. We also have a career development plan for this group that encourages unit cross-training. Generally, all Mail Processors receive incoming mail and parcels from USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. The mail/parcels are then sorted into delivery routes and delivered throughout campus. Mail Processors also pick up outgoing mail/parcels from various departments, create and apply postage and shipping labels if needed, deliver to the correct shipping company, or stage items for shipment pickups. This position includes and requires driving and handling boxes and mail in all elements of the weather. Mail receiving and delivery is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours and university closings, which may include evenings, weekends, and on holidays. Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use. Must work safely and promote a safe environment.

Employee may be required to work overtime or shift work when work cannot be accomplished during regular business hours. This position also may require work during nonbusiness hours which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, etc.). These items are not for personal use.
Normal danger in driving in a heavily congested area and handling heavy items in all elements of the weather. This is a shop operation. Mail is dusty and dirty. Ear protection is available for loud machinery. Closed heeled and closed toed shoes are required.

Position Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School/GED
Six months of work experience.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Must be able to regularly lift, move, and stack 50-pound boxes; up to 70 pounds (USPS Weight Maximum) occasionally; able to “team-lift” items from 50 pounds up to 150 pounds on occasion. Ability to work safely and promote a safe work environment The person in this position must be able to read and review handwritten and typed mail addresses and process them correctly. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills as they will frequently communicate with internal and external individuals. The ability to exchange accurate information is critical. Ability to become proficient in the use of SQBX tracking system and hand-held scanning device.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of experience in mail processing.
Completion of OSU’s Ambassador program, Leadership Development Program (LDP), or FM Leadership Program.
