General Description:
A faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, encouraging student success, and promoting the mission of the academic division to which the faculty member belongs as well as the College as a whole.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in English, composition, rhetoric, communications, creative writing, TESOL, ELL, ESL, Humanities, Literature, philosophy, journalism, or comparable field.
Successful community college teaching experience.

Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups;
Knowledge of or willingness to learn computerized tutorial programs;
Must be punctual and reliable;
Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs and Learning Management Systems used in the Division and on campus (such as MineOnline and Moodle);
Organization and attention to detail;
Agreeable to meet stated expectations such as being available during office hours and providing means of communication with supervisor(s) and/or the Division office.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, administration, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor office setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in teaching a variety of college Composition courses at the community college level, as well as some experience with curriculum and assessment
Work Hours:
This is a full-time position. Teaching schedules can include online, days, nights, concurrent classes at local high schools, and/or classes on week-ends; work includes: maintaining office hours, attending regularly scheduled meetings, and being available for additional meetings. Occasional required events (i.e. Commencement) on weekends.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):
A faculty member is primarily responsible for supporting student learning by providing quality instruction in the courses assigned by the Dean. Quality instruction includes clear course objectives, prepared and relevant class activities, effective and understandable presentations of learning materials, fair and understandable grading practices which follow the needs of the course, program, Division, and College, and, in addition, timely response to students, and a positive atmosphere in the classroom and within the Division and College.
In addition to the primary responsibility for supporting student learning, a faculty member is expected to:
Be available to students by maintaining posted office hours;
Serve as an academic advisor;
Manage program and course curricula by helping select textbooks, evaluating learning materials, and writing course syllabi;
Maintain a flexible schedule to meet program and department needs;
Contribute to developing, implementing, and evaluating approved academic programs and developing new academic programs to meet community needs;
Fulfill course, program, and department goals and objectives;
Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program and/or department;
Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from program, division, and college administrators;
Attend department, division, and college meetings;
Acquire new knowledge and skills as appropriate for the academic discipline;
Maintain license or professional certification specific to program requirements;
Develop and implement a professional development plan;
Participate in on-campus staff development opportunities;
Participate in committees as needed by the Division and College;
Satisfy objectives for mutually agreed upon special assignments;
Participate in faculty-related activities that attract and retain students;
Support the Division’s and College’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
The Professor of English will have primary teaching responsibilities for sections of English Composition I, English Composition II, and English Skills Lab each semester.
The Professor of English may also be asked to teach any of the courses within the English, Humanities, and/or Philosophy disciplines.
The Professor of English may be required to evaluate and revise courses within the English, Humanities, and/or Philosophy disciplines.
