This job is considered a leader in the provision of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses and Scope & Standards of Practice. Effectively delegates, directs and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; exhibits sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and religious diversity in all interactions; maintains involvement in activities aimed toward the achievement of unit and the department’s strategic goals and objectives and demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice and supports the company’s philosophy of nursing.
The Ochsner Cancer Center – Baton Rouge is a newly renovated 20,000-square-foot facility that features state-of-the-art, innovative treatment options in cancer care. Ochsner Cancer Center – Baton Rouge is the only cancer program in Baton Rouge to conveniently offer a hematology and oncology outpatient health center with both chemotherapy infusion and radiation oncology services on one floor, in the same building. Ochsner is the leading clinical oncology program in the Gulf South Region. For over 75 years, we have been dedicated to cancer research and new cancer treatment developments, with more clinical trials than anywhere else in the region.
In the past year, Ochsner has provided both personalized and state-of-the-art care to more than 22,000 cancer patients. Our multi-disciplinary approach, advanced technologies, focus on clinical research, and our Precision Cancer Therapies Program, define our approach to cancer care. Over the last 5 years, Ochsner Health has invested more than $135M in facilities and technology across the Ochsner Cancer Institute reflecting our commitment to leading cancer care in the region and beyond. These projects have included a 115,000 ft2 expansion to the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, the new St Tammany Cancer Center in Covington, and the expansion of the Baton Rouge Cancer Center.
Our nurses supervise and provide nursing care to patients with cancer. Monitor patient’s condition, develop care plans, create symptom management plans, and administer medication. Create stress management plans with the patients and their families once they receive their cancer diagnosis. Follow-up with patients to ensure infusion appointments and follow-up is appropriately scheduled based on the patient’s therapy protocols. Provide supportive resources and education to patients and their families based on the patient’s diagnosis and treatment. Teach both the patients and their families about what to expect throughout their treatment and survivorship. Assess and record the patient’s progress utilizing both the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) toxicity grading guidelines. Discuss survivorship and palliative care with patients during their treatment. Ochsner Health utilizes a comprehensive and integrated electronic medical record (EMR). We follow the Oncology Nursing Society guidelines and USP 800 safety standards.

Education
Required – Registered nursing diploma.

Certifications
Required – Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Preferred -Certification in clinical specialty area.
