As the Senior Specialist, Animal Welfare Compliance you will support regulatory compliance efforts at Novartis Cambridge through management of IACUC processes, performing PAM activities, administration of effective training and education, and implementing initiatives that foster positive relationships with the in vivo community.
Your Key Responsibilities:
• Key contributor to IACUC administration including processing protocols and modifications, database tracking and meeting coordination.
• Conduct Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) program activities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards and internal protocol, policy, and training expectations
• Liaise closely with IACUC, Comparative Medicine team and scientific staff to promote leading practices, facilitate compliance, build community, and exhibit transparency
• Identify and address process improvements and areas for innovation with scientific stakeholders
• Coordinate and direct semiannual facility inspections
• Exemplify ethical use expectations and model leading practices for animal welfare including adoption of innovative 3Rs (reduce, refine, replace) strategies.
• Support the local site’s Animal Welfare training program in conjunction with cross-departmental colleagues (includes training material for new in vivo staff and continuing education programs for current in vivo staff)
• Co-Lead local 3Rs Working Group including meetings, ongoing activities within the in vivo community, and annual events
• Assist in preparation of documents for regulatory agencies, including AAALAC Program Description and annual reports to regulatory authorities
• Act as a contributing member of the global AWC team, interacting with and supporting colleagues on activities pertinent to exceptional animal welfare and ethics of animal use

Role Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, in a scientific discipline (e.g., animal science, zoology, biology.) strongly preferred
• Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) or eligibility to certify within 2 years.
• Relevant technical certifications such as AALAS certifications, SRS, CVT or other as applicable a plus!
• 3+ years of experience within the laboratory animal field
• Experience conducting in vivo technical procedures with small animal models in a discovery research setting
• Experience working effectively with a team, as well as influential leadership and collaboration across teams in a matrixed environment is valuable
• This position promotes independent thinking and requires self-sufficiency and decision-making skills

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $88,000 – $132,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
