The Preclinical Safety (PCS) organization within Translational Medicine provides world class preclinical safety profiling and assessment for optimal drug discovery, development, and commercialization with state-of-the-art regulatory compliance. We are seeking a highly motivated leader to join our Global Preclinical Safety Organization (PCS) as the Head of Translational Toxicology. In this role you will be responsible for defining and leading an integrated Translational Toxicology department. You will have responsibility for all GLP and non-GLP Toxicology studies, Safety Pharmacology, Photosafety, Reproductive Toxicology and also investigative safety models. A key feature will be balancing the internal and outsourced work to optimally manage the translational toxicology testing strategy in support of the research and development portfolio.
Your main accountabilities will include but not be limited to:
• Lead a high performing global Translational Toxicology Department with interdependencies between functions within Translational Toxicology to maximize efficient use of resources.
• Responsible for the Translational Toxicology strategy and oversight of study timelines, prioritization, resources and budget allocation, in alignment with R&D portfolio strategy.
• Drive scientific excellence in the Translational Toxicology discipline and build close strategic partnerships with defined CROs to ensure optimal qualitative and quantitative support of the project needs.
• Accountable for talent landscape and developing and mentoring a strong and empowered team with recognized subject matter expertise within Translational Toxicology.
• Drive the management, direction, coordination, and quality of all aspects of nonclinical testing that is designed to give critical guidance to the clinical testing program in humans and to provide assurance of the safety of drug candidates in filing INDs and NDAs.
• Ensure the work conducted and/or outsourced and supervised by this department is in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and be acceptable by Health Authorities worldwide.
• Ensure seamless collaboration with the core functional departments within PCS to deliver state of the art end to end preclinical / translational safety experiments and interpretation across all phases of research and development in support of the portfolio.
• Optimize the use of our internal capabilities and balance with the need for outsourcing to ensure timely execution of studies.
• As Global Test Facility Management for PCS, you will ensure GLP facilities are maintained as GLP compliant as required by FDA, OECD and Swissmedic regulations.
• Be a core member of the NIBR Integrated Safety Assessment Board (ISA)
• Be a member of the PCS Leadership team, with shared strategic and operational ownership for the overall success of global PCS.What you will bring to the role:
Education: PhD in pharmacology, toxicology or a related biological science; MD with appropriate experience, DVM with appropriate training and experience. PharmD or equivalent with a strong biological background or equivalent work experience.
Languages: Fluent English (oral and written)
Experience/Professional Requirement:
15 plus years with a proven track record in Pharmaceutical Toxicology and people management
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $233,600 and $350,400/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
