Job Purpose
The Global Head of Strategy & Integration is an enterprise leadership role responsible for defining NIBR’s strategic priorities and translating the strategy into organizational decisions that ensure near- and long-term success of the new Novartis Strategy. The incumbent is an essential partner to Strategy and Growth, GDD, and IM leadership by serving as a key NIBR stakeholder for developing the broader Novartis Strategy and in building scalable approaches to shape enterprise portfolio strategy across / within each Novartis Therapeutic Area. The role oversees NIBR’s Strategy and Integration function, a diverse team leading critical strategic decision making and execution across the organization and comprised of highly visible sub-teams: (1) the NIBR Strategy Team charged with defining and implementing NIBR-wide strategic priorities and shaping Novartis TA Strategies and (2) the NIBR Integration Office responsible for maximizing the value of portfolio and people that come into NIBR through strategic biotech acquisitions. Across these dimensions, the role also ensures the delivery of strategic cross-Novartis / NIBR organizational trans-formation / change management initiatives required to future-proof the organization to deliver on the strategy.
Major Accountabilities
Strategic Planning
• Partner with S&G, GDD, and IM leaders to shape the Novartis Corporate Strategy and end-to-end Portfolio Strategy for core Novartis Therapeutic Areas, building NIBR perspectives with the NIBR President, Chief of Staff, and NIBR Disease Area Heads to in-fluence decision making at the enterprise level.
• Lead development and implementation of NIBR’s strategic priorities, collaborating with NIBR President, CFO, DA/FA Heads, BD&L Head, and P&O Head, and interfacing with S&G Leadership to refine in context of broader Novartis Strategy.
• Drive complex organizational transformation / change management initiatives in partnership with the NIBR President, NIBR Leadership Team (NLT), and cross-divisional enterprise leaders to implement strategic decisions across the organization.
• Represent NIBR’s strategic and scientific priorities (as appropriate) externally to Novartis (e.g., Investors).
Strategic Integrations
• Maximize the value newly acquired entities (e.g., biotech companies) bring to the NIBR / Novartis portfolio while bringing them smoothly into Novartis systems and processes.
• Lead the NIBR Integration Office guiding the Head, NIBR Integration Office to shape the enterprise-wide approach to integrations, driving continuous improvement in integrations by providing continuity across deals, from diligence to execution.
People Leadership
• Lead the NIBR Strategy and Integration Office (Direct reports), with focus on recruiting, developing, and coaching top talent to create impact that scales across the organization.
• Partner with DA Heads and P&O to maximize the Strategy talent pool and talent development process. Cultivate, sponsor, and mentor community of NIBR leaders in Portfolio and Strategy-focused roles, and build strategic capabilities among scientific and clinical leaders.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $222,400 and $333,600 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. • Advanced degree in the life sciences or healthcare required; M.D. or PhD essential.
Work Experience
• At minimum 12+ years experience required with significant research, industry, and financial experience within pharma/healthcare industry. At minimum 5+ years of top-tier strategy, business or finance experience required (consulting, VC, investment banking).
• Strong leadership presence and the ability to develop talent; demonstrated ability to lead and in-fluence within a global matrixed organization. Ability to comfortably engage with the C-suite and mid-career associates to influence and challenge with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery and development. Strong strategic vision, superior leadership, excellent communication, consensus building, and well-developed influencing and negotiation skills.
• Excellent conflict resolution skills to facilitate agreement and buy-in at the most-senior levels. Experience leading and managing a team with a variety of insights from science to commercial and proven coaching and mentoring experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively with scientists / clinicians as well as finance, legal, and business development experts. Strong change management skills and track-record of delivery.
• Extensive experience leading large cross-disciplinary teams, with excellent analytical and communication skills; strong ability to translate science.
Languages
• Fluency in English required. Effective and persuasive communicator with strong presentation, communication (both written and verbal), influencing and negotiation skills.
