**This position has the ability to be located in East Hanover, New Jersey or San Diego, California. However, Durham, North Carolina is preferred.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Leads Scientific Office of Cell and Gene Therapies (CGT) in TRD Biologics & CGT including accountable for CGT scientific governance meeting.
• Accountable for the CGT scientific strategy and driving the CGT long-term strategic plan and its implementation together with the CGT LT.
• Leads & acts as operational manager for up to 10 senior associates in matrix leadership roles
• Ensures broad overview on the industry, academic and regulatory landscape for CGT Development, actively scouts current and future trends including upcoming technologies and integrate them into CGT strategy.
• Inspires and energizes the CGT organization to explore, develop and implement cutting edge development, production and automation technologies.
• Drives the broader CGT organization for scientific rigor and knowledge curation incl. an effective scientific project consultancy.
• Builds & maintains stakeholder network within Novartis including BxCGT Scientific Officer and line functions across TRD and beyond i.e. Biomedical Research, Technical Operations, Development.
• Establish and drive external engagement strategy for CGT in alignment with broader TRD strategy and organization.Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion:

Role Requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
• PhD degree in technical or scientific area or proven track record of scientific expertise
• 12 years experience in related fields with at least 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry
• Expert knowledge of development and manufacturing technologies
• Proven track record in leading and engaging people in matrixed, cross-disciplinary, and multi-cultural environments.
• Proven ability to provide constructive feedback and facilitate productive coaching conversations
• Highly effective communication skills including building and maintaining a network
Desirable Capabilities:
• Experience in senior scientific roles
• Several years in pharmaceutical development or production
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $183,200 and $274,800year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
