CS&I is a dynamic group of Clinical Scientists who plan and execute Novartis’ early phase global clinical trials. From First-in-Human, to Proof-of-Concept, and beyond, we design and operationalize clinical trials, ensuring they run smoothly, on time and, most importantly, with patients’ interests to the fore. We play a pivotal role in transitioning discovery research to clinical practice.
As a Senior Clinical Finance Manager you will be accountable for ensuring accurate clinical trial budgeting/forecasting and operational support to facilitate informed decision making regarding portfolio investments, and ensuring adequate backing of necessary external and internal resources to execute and deliver the NIBR portfolio. Independently collaborate with stakeholders and manage complex and/or priority clinical programs with some supervision.
Your key responsibilities:
– Drive budgetary and forecasting requirements of Clinical Trials by providing latest estimates on current year and future year planning. Identify issues and propose mitigating plans in order to facilitate decision making.
– Deliver best ratio between trial cost (cost efficiency/ productivity) and operational and scientific requirements to deliver trial protocol as per expectations.
– Develop and drive agreement on the clinical trial budget and forecasts with the Therapeutic Area (TA) Heads, clinical trial teams (CTT) and Global Program teams (GPT) and assist with securing approvals.
-. Manage the Total Trial Grant (TTG) development and approval process, including the budget presentation at the Clinical Operations Board (COB.) Initiate and lead budget review meetings with CTT and/or functional management as needed. Challenge and track program/trial timelines, resource requirements and expenditures and initiate adjustments as needed.
— Conduct and lead review of the operational plan and budget with TA at Milestone meetings and challenge and track project/activity timelines, resource requirements and costs.

Role Requirements
Essential Requirements:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in life science/healthcare OR bachelor degree in business required. Advanced degree in life science/healthcare or business administration as well as professional certifications preferred.
Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, such as in Clinical Development, Finance or Project Management
Strong understanding of the Clinical Development process and management of clinical trials
Understanding of common pricing and contracting models for clinical services.
A clinical background and strong understanding of cost drivers and benchmarks for clinical trials as it relates to contracts and cost reductions; ability to speak intelligently regarding cost drivers and comparative analyses.
Experience in working with electronic databases, clinical and/or project management planning and reporting systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial processes / controlling.
Ability and willingness to learn new systems readily.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $130,400 – $195,600/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
