Northwestern University Hiring for Threat Assessmnt Case Mgr at Evanston, IL  Full Time

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Consultation Case Manager reports to the Director of Behavioral Consultation Programs within Northwestern’s Department of Safety and Security. The Case Manager will identify, assess, manage, and document persons of concern in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary Behavioral Consultation Team (BCT) and other campus partners, as necessary. The Case Manager will work independently and as part of a team by receiving initial information, leading the process of gathering additional information, assessing levels of situational urgency, and collaborating with a variety of university partners. This Case Manager will also conduct threat assessment investigations and manage a caseload that may involve campus community members, including students, staff, faculty, and non-affiliated individuals.

**Please note: Investigative and threat assessment experience required. Will involve evening and weekend work. Flexible scheduling for training, department meetings, etc. Driving to meetings, interviews, or other job-related events.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Screen and manage incoming threat assessment reports in a timely, expedited manner to assess and identify levels of concern and priority, and use judgement to determine appropriate response
• Gather pertinent information through interviews, complex and/or voluminous reports, and other resources, using investigative, strategic, and analytical skills to conduct assessments of risk of violence
• Conduct non-clinical case management, document ongoing assessments, management actions, and intervention strategies and present results to BCT, University Police, and University Administration, as necessary
• Attend weekly meetings and participate in training the campus community in threat assessment matters as well as conducting outreach and recommending resources
• Identify, assess, and manage concerning behavior by partnering and collaborating with members of the BCT as well as other faculty and staff who are frequently involved in situations that come to the attention of the BCT
• Employ a variety of strategies that may include longitudinal monitoring of a situation and/or individual to determine when to close a threat assessment investigation
• Provide training, training materials, scenario-based training, and updates on best practices to BCT members, students, and campus personnel
• Coordinate and collaborate with campus partners, including student health and student assistance partners, regarding concerning behavior to enhance safety and well-being of the campus community

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or criminal justice and experience in conducting investigations
• Experience in threat assessment and management with the ability to distinguish between assumptions and facts to objectively analyze information and make decisions
• Experience working in time-sensitive, crisis situations
• Experience working with diverse communities, including historically underrepresented and minoritized, LGBTQ+ communities, and individuals with disabilities

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

• Ability to read, analyze, and understand issues and policies related to FERPA, HIPAA, Clery Act, Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, and the Illinois Campus Security Enhancement Act of 2008
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with members of various University departments, including University Police, Human Resources, Student Affairs, Office of General Counsel, Provost’s Office, and other community partners
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Maintain an objective, investigative mindset while conducting threat investigations
• Develop and implement nuanced, case specific intervention and management strategies
• Engage in ongoing self-reflection and continue to advance knowledge and skills related to empathy, respect, fairness, and professionalism
• Effectively maintain documentation relating to consultations, assessments, and interventions
• Comply with threat assessment professional ethical standards and practices
• Ability to organize and deliver training to campus community members on threat assessment programs and practice

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or criminal justice

The target hiring range for this position will be between $76,200 to $80,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
