About the Department/College
The Department of Health
Sciences serves approximately 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students within the College of Health and Human Services. The department is a
true multidisciplinary unit, providing six different undergraduate degree programs in five unique disciplines (Public Health, Nutrition and
Foods, Allied Health, Fitness Wellness, and Physical Education Teacher Education), along with the Master of Public Health degree, and
collaboration in an Interdisciplinary Health PhD degree between the College of Health and Human Services and the College of Social and
Behavioral Sciences. Additionally, the department offers curricula in traditional residential and online formats.
NAU’s Master of
Public Health (MPH) works to improve health, well-being, and quality of life in Arizona with a focus on rural, tribal, and border
communities. The program offers concentrations in three areas: Nutrition, Health Promotion, and Indigenous Health.
This position will
also be an integral part of the Southwest Health Equity Research Collaborative (SHERC), a dynamic, Research Center for Minority Institutions
at Northern Arizona University funded by NIMHD. SHERC is housed in the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) in the Office of the Vice
President for Research. The long-term goal of SHERC is to eliminate health disparities among diverse populations of the southwestern United
States by focusing on building research capacity in biomedical, clinical, and behavioral sciences at NAU. We are uniquely positioned to do
this at NAU, given our longstanding commitment to serving underrepresented students and citizens in our region, our strong working
relationships with tribal, Latinx, and rural communities, and our dedication to conduct health equity research that directly improves the
lives of the people we serve.
About the Position
We seek applicants for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track research and
teaching faculty position in the Department of Health Sciences at the Assistant Professor level to start in the Fall of 2024.
The
successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading population health research projects and working as part of a
multidisciplinary team. Scholarly work should reflect best practices regarding statistical analysis and reporting, study design, study
recruitment and other indices of optimal and transparent research.
We seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary,
and community-engaged research. Areas of specific research growth in CHER and SHERC include cross-cutting areas such as social determinants
of health, Indigenous health, behavioral and clinical health, and methodological and analytical strategies for community-based and
multilevel interventions.
Responsibilities Include:
This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to
complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are
rare.

Compensation & Benefits
Anticipated salary range is $73,357 – $76,499. Annual salary
commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision
insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10
holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the

benefits page. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of
Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). Employees will have
31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their
completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan
(and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New
employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the
first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the

Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal
background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be

Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery
reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to
keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus
has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and

FLSA Status
This
position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory
time for additional time worked.
