Position Title: Transportation Manager
Job Summary:
The Transportation Manager oversees all aspects of Transportation Operations for the plant, ensuring compliance with DOT, environmental, and GMP policies and procedures. This role manages the Transportation Department, coordinates with Private Label, and plays a crucial role in maintaining efficient scheduling and dispatching of products.
Primary Job Duties:
1. Ensure compliance with DOT, environmental, and GMP policies and procedures for tractor-trailer drivers.
2. Manage Transportation Department activities, coordinating with Private Label to ensure timely handling and shipment of products.
3. Review, process, and file all paperwork from previous day’s routes, including payroll sheets, driver’s logs, and inspection reports.
4. Prepare and evaluate the operating budget.
5. Confirm timely departure of all routes.
6. Recruit and hire qualified CDL Class A truck drivers in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
7. Foster open communication with the general plant manager and other department heads.
8. Possess knowledge of investigation audits and procedures.
9. Follow up on customer-related issues and address them promptly.
10. Demonstrate leadership skills, project administration, strategic planning, excellent record-keeping, and inventory control.
11. Facilitate departmental meetings and exhibit good public speaking skills.
12. Perform all other duties as required by the plant manager, transportation director, and owners.
Safety:
1. Maintain a safe working environment for all employees/contractors.
2. Promote safety in all areas of operations.
3. Schedule and conduct safety meetings on a monthly basis.
Sanitation:
1. Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
2. Follow proper G.M.P.’s at all times.
Ensures Proper Training:
Ensure proper training of all drivers according to DOT Regulations and environmental laws.
Essential Job Functions/Requirements:
– Experience: 2-3 years as a CDL Class “A” truck driver, 2 or more years as a transportation supervisor or in a general supervision position in a plant.
– Education: CDL Class “A” license required; a bachelor’s degree in management or a related field is highly desirable.
– Excellent bookkeeping and inventory skills.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills.
– PC knowledge.
– Ability to stand for 10-12 hours per day.
– Physically capable of moving to all areas of the plant.
