The Program Manager Industrial Hygiene anticipates, identifies, and evaluates processes involving potential employee or passenger exposure to hazardous chemicals and physical and biological agents. The candidate must be able to perform environmental health assessments (including collection of air, water, and bulk samples) and prepare written reports; identify workplace health-related training requirements and coordinate with safety trainers and program developers; and coordinate with Health Services to identify employees for inclusion in health maintenance and medical surveillance programs. The Program Leader Industrial Hygiene also supports the Environmental Compliance team, specifically assisting with the aircraft drinking water program, conducting station check visits and providing other support as needed.
Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):
” Anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and controls potential chemical, physical and biological hazards.
” Identifies and prioritizes corporate industrial hygiene issues.
” Conducts and coordinates workplace air, water and noise assessments proactively and as requested by employees.
” Investigates indoor air quality complaints and recommends remedial action.
” Coordinates evaluation of environmental health projects involving passengers or employees (cabin air quality, drinking water, cabin disinfection, bioaerosols, etc.).
” Serves as a technical expert on occupational health issues, including chemicals, biological agents, and physical agents such as radiation and noise.
” Routinely reviews Safety Data Sheets for new chemicals as a member of Company s Chemical Review Committee to promote safe selection and use.
” Facilitates the design, selection, and use of engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment to address workplace health problems.
” Assists divisions with VPP preparedness.
” Develops and implements Industrial Hygiene programs that reduce the risk of exposure to environmental hazards.
” Promotes awareness of Global Environment, Sustainability, and Compliance and its industrial hygiene capabilities.
” Regularly communicates with Company people at all levels through training, reports, memos, telephone conversations and one-on-one discussions.
” Maintains the Industrial Hygiene net page and SharePoint.
” Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industrial hygiene best practices.
” Promotes health, safety, and well-being as an internal consultant for employees and passengers.
” Works with Company’s divisions to develop and implement effective environmental health programs (for example, hazard communication, hearing conservation, and water quality).
” Develops and implements the Industrial Hygiene Technician program, including training.
” Creates, maintains and updates industrial hygiene assessments for affected work areas.
” Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
” Assesses the impact of proposed workplace health regulations on Company operations.
” Monitors corporate compliance with environmental health-related standards and guidelines.
” Provides technical and administrative support to Corporate Safety & Compliance and divisional safety departments.
” Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

Quals–
” Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, public health or related environmental health field required
” Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience in environmental health, project management, and multimedia sampling.
” Must be responsible, dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
” Should have a working knowledge of standard desktop computer functions such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
” Must possess strong planning and organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills, and be able to work well under pressure.
” Ability to work with all levels of employees a must.
” (If transferring internally) Must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):
” Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential is not required, although qualifications and intention to pursue CIH is preferred.
” A master s degree in public health, industrial hygiene or related environmental health field preferred.
