Essential Job Duties:
This is a temporary, full-time position (40 hours per week) for an instructional assistant to assist with course delivery in the Geospatial Analytics PHD and Master of Geospatial Information Science & Technology (MGIST) programs. The purpose of this position is to serve primarily as an instructional course development lead for a GIS-based surface analysis and modeling course with topics including proximity analysis with cost surfaces and least cost paths, multivariate spatial interpolation and 3D surface visualization and a special focus is on terrain modeling, geomorphometry, solar irradiation, visibility, and watershed analysis. Additional duties include development of a syllabus and instructional materials for a new open science’ special topics course.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Ph.D. in geospatial sciences, or related field
Department Required Skills:
- Significant Data Science background, including experience with techniques involving participatory modeling, data modeling, data visualization, and geospatial computation. Experience should include working with software such as Python, R, GRASS GIS, Google Earth Engine, and ARCGIS Suite.
- Proven software engineering experience including past work with web application development, backend development, and mobile development. Experience should include working with software such as Java, Javascript, Vue, Amazon Web Services, and Docker.
- Experience with database development and support. Experience should include working with software such as PostgreSQL, Oracle Spatial, and Google Big Query.
- Experience teaching and grading graduate level geospatial related courses
- Experience with watershed modeling and related geospatial feature extraction.
- Proven scholarly and/or technical writing ability
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
- Past experience developing and instructing surface analysis and modeling courses
- Past experience developing courses focusing on the open science movement
